Lean Management: how to maximise its impact?

Finding inefficiencies by mapping processes

We have just held a webinar to talk about how a Lean Manager can contribute to continuous improvement in an organisation through Lean Management processes. According to the principles of Lean Management, it is important to make your company work at its best by eliminating all waste and optimising resources.

The importance of Lean Management

The presence of the Lean Manager has become of paramount importance in recent years, because he is a person who is technically trained in the principles of agile working (which is crucial in a changing market) and who is able to guide and inspire those who work with him. He helps organisations to uncover inefficiencies and implement economically sustainable solutions. In addition, a good Lean Manager must possess many skills, such as communication skills, respect and confidence in the potential of his or her employees.

During the webinar on lean management, we heard from a number of experts, including Alberto Amantini of Pantarei s.r.l., who shared with us some of the critical issues in his company and explained how he was able to find different solutions by applying the agile approach.

The principle of Lean Management makes it possible to implement construction, design and management processes with fewer resources and better information management.

It enables continuous improvement that generates value both internally and externally, thereby increasing the competitiveness of the organisation. By managing business processes and reducing waste, lean management can be adopted by manufacturing companies, service companies and public administrations.

Alberto introduced the concept of estimated times in all the plants, to give the operators a working timeframe. Using Autocad, he created an interface where each square represents a plant, connected to the rest of the system. Each square is coloured in real time with respect to its operational status (whether it is working, paused or stopped), so that critical issues such as downtime can be monitored. Thanks to his knowledge of Lean Management principles and his experience as a Lean Manager, he was able to identify critical issues, highlight waste and find opportunities for improvement.

The advantages of Autocad in Lean Management processes

AutoCAD®  is computer-aided design software that architects, engineers and professionals rely on to create accurate 2D and 3D drawings. It allows the creation of electrical control systems with a specific set of tools. The automated operations and libraries natively present in Autocad have enabled Alberto to increase productivity, reduce errors and provide accurate production information.

Collecting data from automated processes is not enough, people remain a key resource for companies.

What if we wanted to collect qualitative data?

Autocad is a great tool for managing and improving machine inefficiencies. Within a company, however, there are often other critical issues that can only be noticed by the staff. In order to be able to get to know and unleash everyone’s ideas, while optimising time, another tool is needed.

This is where Fennec comes in, a software with which Alberto can not only maximise the management of meetings but also improve the efficiency of the company, create greater involvement of staff in the production process and optimise the various jobs.

Helping Lean Managers maximise their efforts

Fennec makes it possible to collect critical issues perceived by employees anonymously, analyse them by grouping them according to importance and urgency and present them visually.

Filippo Causero, CEO of Foxwin, told how he has been working for years to help companies improve efficiency and optimise processes. This is thanks to listening and directly involving people.

Fennec is used precisely for this first phase of this process, i.e. to involve the employees of a company by asking them about the criticalities and inefficiencies they have encountered. Then you can group all the differences that have emerged into macro-categories. This creates a clear picture of the difficulties that you and your team will have to tackle immediately.

From now on, thanks to Fennec, Lean Managers will be able to maximise their work, not only with the help of the principles of Lean Management, but above all by using the collected and analysed ideas of their own staff.
