The book presents numerous case studies and anecdotes to illustrate his argument, and touches on several fields, mainly economics and psychology.

What prevents us from paying attention to situations more effectively is that we are not fully aware of the inner condition from which our attention and actions originate. Scharmer calls this lack of awareness our blind spot.
